Spanish vacation

Ever wished you could wake up to the sound of birds chirping rather than the sound of the alarm clock? Walk along the beautifully paved stone streets watching beautiful houses not the lifeless commercial buildings? Spend a lazy afternoon sipping coffee while reading your favorite book under an umbrella in front of a local coffee shop rather than preparing for the next meeting? If your heart dreams of such, it means only one thing, which is that you need a break from your busy life. It is time to pack your bags and go for an adventure.

If you are planning to spend a day in the midst of lush and green then Royal Botanical Garden is the place to go. Like an oasis in the middle of a desert, this park is a piece of nature in the midst of a busy city. The 20 acres of garden is the place where you will come across marvelous numbers of plants, trees, flowers and shrubs. A recent study shows that the garden has about 1,500 trees and 30,000 plants and flowers. Along with that, parts of the garden are dedicated to fruit plants, vegetables and herb plants. One of the best features of the garden is that plants and trees from five continents can be found there. The best time to visit the garden is spring time, when it is filled with color.

If you want to take a walk down memory lane and get some history lessons, then Atocha station is the place to go. Apparently that was Spain's first rail way station. Unfortunately the station was somewhat ruined 10 years after it was built. Thus, it was reconstructed in 18920. The reconstructed station is much bigger than the original structure. During the reconstruction of the station, the old part of the station was converted into a place where people can rest. The station consists of a food court, shops and a tropical garden. If you are looking for a historical landmark then Alcala Gate is the place to visit.

The gate was designed by Italian architect Sabatini in 1764 when King Carlos the Third commissioned him to design it. This landmark consists of three large archways and two smaller ones. Unlike the larger ones, the smaller passageways are rectangular shaped. The main feature of the gate is that each of the archways is decorated with the head of a lion. And at the top of the gate there is a statue of Francisco Guttiérrez. All of this is just bits and pieces of what Madrid has to offer. The city is waiting for you to explore all her nooks and crannies. This is the time for you to give yourself a break and visit the land of beauty.

Spain and its Tomato Fights

Special holiday destinations

Are you in search of a unique place to spend your holiday? Is there nothing to please you because all places offer you the same things? Well, have you thrown an eye on Spain? Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world due to its spectacular landscapes and cities and also due to the very special, unique traditions and customs. There is no possibility of not falling in love with Spain when you visit it. If you are the type who wants to do something innovative on holiday, choose Bunyol.

What is so special about Bunyol? It is a small city situated near Valencia which hosts a very popular annual festival: La Tomatina or the tomato fight festival. You should choose your holiday date according to this festival because the locals organize shows throughout a whole week; however, Wednesday is the day of the actual fight which starts at noon in the middle of August. The heat and the tomatoes create such a funny atmosphere that you feel the need to be part of the entertainment, I guarantee you this.

A very funny activity

Even though the more conservative ones would think that the tomato fight is childish and absurd, the festival is very popular among the conformist ones, making it one of the most famous festivals in Spain, part of the traditions of this beautiful country. The village is very peaceful during the whole year but the 9,000 inhabitants turn into over 30,000 when the fiesta begins. If you really want to find accommodation in Bunyol around the festival, book rooms months ahead, because everybody else wants the same as you.

How it all started

If you are interested in the legend of the festival, you should know that no one really knows how it started. Some recall that it was in 1945 when a group of young adolescents wanted to join the “Gigantes y Cabezudos” parade, but were not allowed; as a response, they started throwing tomatoes on those who were part of the parade. The police managed to stop the fight but they were present at the parade the following year, with more tomatoes. Some thought it funny and joined, so this is how the bizarre fight turned into the biggest one in the world. If you want to be part of the festival, make sure to bring another set of clothes with you and something to protect your eyes is also recommended. Have lots of fun!

Ancient but Enchanting Andorra la Vella

Andorra la Vella lies at the east of the Pyrenees, the fabulous mountains that loom majestically above this quaint Spanish city. Andorra is considered a beautiful attraction for many who want a diverse culture yet Spanish overall. This city is strategically positioned close to France and Spain. As the capital of the Andorra Principality, it is a real cosmopolitan set up with 45% Spanish, 11% Portuguese, 7% French and 33% Andorra. Its diverse population makes Andorra la Vella an interesting tourist attraction to indulge in its varied culture and tradition.

Variety

Although there are more Spanish than Andorrans, Catalan is the preferred spoken language in Andorra la Vella. However, with the diverse cultures, there are sure to be a varied range of languages spoken such as Castilian, Portuguese and French. The original meaning of this town’s name is an interesting point to note; surprisingly, Andorra la Vella just means Old Andorra with reference to the ancient times of its origins, where it remains as it has always been since its inhabitation.

Characteristics

Andorra la Vella is really a beautiful quaint town which any visitor would fall in love with; its picturesque setting makes this ancient town an antique. Andorra was one of the first few settlements in this region in ancient days. It was formerly known as Barri Antic by its first settlers due to the numerous stoned streets and stoned houses that make it so uniquely antique. These were the simple dwellings of Andorra la Vella’s first settlers. As the town grew and adopted much of today’s modernism, the old spot is now known as the ancient quarter that is located between 2 sections - Esglesia de St. Esteve and Placeta del Puial. No visitor should miss this ancient spot in Andorra to get a feel of the ancient days.

Constructions

One of the 2 sections near the ancient quarter is the church of Sant Esteve. Its antique structure proves to be a tourist attraction where no similarity can be found anywhere else in Andorra la Vella. This is actually an 11th century church that was built in Romanesque style. There are a few intriguing paintings that are bound to fascinate the visitors if they were to observe carefully this church’s interior designs. These intriguing paintings prove to be a greater attraction than the church structure itself as these art pieces are truly ancient and unique.

Another interesting Andorra construction is the castle or Casa de la Vall. This House of Valley is actually the parliament house of Andorra since 1703. The building itself was constructed in the 1580s as a family residence before the Andorran government took over as their parliament. This House of Valley is very unique in its construction in terms of its architecture and designs on its interior. It is also full of history which the visitor must appreciate slowly.

The La Cala golf resort boasts of not one, not two, but four golf courses for your golfing pleasure. This is also to cater to the many avid golfers who flock to this place for their game. The La Cala Resort is especially famous for its golfing facilities which have been constructed and maintained to be of top quality standards to the pride of Costa del Sol. Renting Villas For Holidays In Spain

A well deserved holiday

The times in which we live are harsh, financially speaking, and add to that the personal stress and agitation of the day to day life, the only escape would be a holiday. But what do you do when your budget is limited and you are not in a position to make any compromises? The answer is very simple: you rent a villa and the perfect holiday is guaranteed. Many discovered the fact that renting a villa is actually very affordable by accident. You will find it in this article, which will give you all the details you need for a dream holiday.

The steps you have to follow

Firstly, you have to choose a holiday destination. For example, take Tenerife, in Spain, which is one of the most visited countries in Europe and in the world. Tenerife is very famous for its beaches. If you just spend a few minutes on the internet, you’ll find plenty of websites full of advertisements for renting villas in Tenerife. You will also find out the fact that they are very cheap, because you rent them directly from the owner, not through a tourism operator who has to make his own living from something. So, get into contact with the owner and once you agree on a price, the process is over.

Best villas in Tenerife

When you choose a rental villa on the internet, inspect all the pictures and make sure you like it. You’ll find villas for all tastes, rustic and traditional, modern and luxurious. Regardless of the type of villa you choose, it is surely situated in a picturesque location. When you see one that you like, take a look at the reviews of those who have already used it; it is a must to be positive. Gay Villa Spain, for example, would be a good choice for you. Now, you also have to attend to flight tickets; if you travel sometime out of season, the tickets will be a bargain and the cost of the flight plus the villas will definitely not be what you would have expected it to be. The surprise will be a pleasant one, because you will find out that they will be very affordable and since you go to Tenerife, it does not matter that it is not the peak season: you will have a wonderful, sunny, relaxing and most of all, cheap vacation.

Mazarron as a Holiday Destination

Have you heard of Mazarron?

Are you familiar with the holiday destinations in beautiful Spain? If you haven’t thought about going to this country until now, it is time for you to do this, as Spain is an amazing place to spend a holiday. The south of Spain is very popular because of the mild temperatures throughout the year; this is also the place where you will find Mazarron, on the Costa Calida. Mazarron offers some of the best beaches in Spain and to make it even more interesting, you should know that, like many other places in Spain, the Romans, the Moors and the Phoenicians fought for it, and left their marks for the coming generations.

A bay surrounded by mountains is what makes Mazarron and gives it its wonderful landscape. Just like any other Spanish resort, Mazarron has two main parts: the Puerta del Mazarron, where you will find the coastline with the beaches, the water and the yachts, and the historical part of Mazarron where tourists go sightseeing. There are a few interesting monuments here that deserve your attention, such as the Veles Castle, the Convent of La Purisma or the San Andres Church which impresses the tourists with its Mudejar ceiling.

Having fun in Mazarron

One of the tourists’ favorite places is the Puerto Mazarron. The esplanade of the port is full or restaurants where tourists can taste both the traditional tapas and fine international cuisine dishes as they watch the boats come and go; the view is spectacular. The number of beaches is impressive and they all share the same characteristics: delicate sand and clear waters. The most popular beaches are Playa del Casteller, Los Lobos, Playa de Bahia, and Playa de Nares. Some of these beaches are perfect for families with small children because the waters are shallow here. Mazarron is also the perfect destination for those who love nature; the Sierra de la Moreras and Cabo Tinoso are protected areas where tourists can go on trips.

If you want to get out of Mazarron for a day, go visit Cartagena, which is situated very close by. Cartagena is a historical town of Spain, a place where you can find out a lot of interesting things regarding the past of this country. Entertainment is always present in Mazarron, a place where fiestas feel like home. There are several such parties throughout the year, providing delight for the audience. Have fun in Mazarron!

The Places to visit in Spain

Spain is such a beautiful country that is so rich in culture and history that one must be ready to see all there is to see if they were to touch Spanish soil. The varied traditions and ancient influences form the very heartbeat of Spain with its numerous varied regions. Its different governing styles and lifestyles of the locals enrich a visitor’s experience while touring Spain.

Exciting cities

Barcelona

The city of Barcelona is the most popular Spanish tourist resort; tourists are fascinated with the Holy Family Church spires and neo-Gothic architecture that Antoni Gaudi, a Catalan architect, put splendidly into place. Its well-set undulating curves and outrageously flashy design made it one of the architect’s best work pieces. Another interesting piece of Barcelona lies in the cobbled pathways of Las Ramblas, right to the Cataluña Plaza. Barcelona’s famous landmarks, the San Pablo Ocampo Church and the Santa Eulalia Gothic Cathedral, are located in the ancient quarters. The Santa Eulalia was erected in honor of the famous explorer Christopher Columbus. Other intriguing architectural structures include those by Josep Vilaseca who created the Barri Gotic as well as the brick-red Arc del Triomf.

There are many top quality educational institutions in Barcelona such as the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous Barcelona University. There are also many distinguished art institutions in Barcelona for those who love art such as the Royal Archives of Aragon and museums like the Archaeological Museum, Ancient Art Museum, Modern Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Madrid

This is Spain’s capital which is famous for its festive and vibrant nightlife. Visitors are treated to fun times at the many bars, cafes and summer terazas; many offer a great atmosphere for relaxing and drowning a couple of pints with the more popular spots at Chueca and Bellas Artes Circulo. There are a few good museums to see in Madrid, but the best three are the Museo del Prado, Goya’s Las Majas and museo Las Meninas. You will be excited to learn about the art history that Spain houses; the art collection is just enormous.

Picasso’s beautiful masterpiece in Geurnica is housed in Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, reflecting the Civil War of Spain. Not to be missed is the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum with about 800 art paintings and the museum of Lazaro Galdiano, which houses all locally published books. Worthy of mention are the Bullfighting museum, Decorative Arts National Museum and Madrid’s Cultural Center, which is Spain’s opera house, locally called zarzuela theater. Visitors will be amazed with the Royal Palace where visitors are allowed to enjoy a stroll through its 18th to 20th century residential rooms.

Granada

A definite must to see would be the Alhambra Palace. It is one of the best Moorish arts that can be found in Spain. Its fabulous patios and courtyards showcase beautiful architecture together with inlaid walls and ceiling of intricate designs.

Cordoba

This southern city is not to be missed as it houses the Mezquita, which is Europe’s most beautiful and most distinct mosque. Alcazar has proven to be another popular tourist destination to check out its intrinsic Moorish designs, although the palace lies in ruins. With its long stretch of alluring beaches, you will not want to miss Spain as part of your favorite holiday destination.

Exciting Happenings at Jerez de la Frontera

Jerez de la Frontera lies in Andalucia and possesses a rich history that is worth a visit anytime. The name Jerez was derived from Sherry; it is appropriate as this town is one of 3 towns which produce sherry. The other two places are nearby Sanlucar at Barrameda and El Puerto at Santa Maria. But there is some distinction in the other 2 towns’ wine production; El Puerto is more renowned for its finos and amontillados whereas Sanlucar produces a different range and flavor such as the manzanilla.

Overview

Jerez is set up on the plains of sherry and brandy vineyards. It has been very successful in its commercial winery industry for a long time. The wine industry goes a long way back to the Anlo-Andaluz generations who started this industry and are still very active today, wielding much economic and social power. The town slogan is ‘Jerez-Pura Andalucia’ which refers to the beautiful and ideal image of this area where it is abundant with rich vineyards, grand palaces, large estates and land barons who breed fine horses, bullfighting and flamenco culture.

Attractions

There are lots of exciting places to visit while at Jerez. A tour of the bodegas is a must for any visitor. The bodegas are the winery production houses where you can observe how wine, especially sherry, is produced. You usually can have a taste of it and purchase some for your own enjoyment at home. Next to visit is the equestrian school, the Real Escuela Andaluza, where many stables stand majestically with beautifully decorated and well-maintained carriages used for the school’s training. You might be lucky to observe one of its training sessions, too.

Thursdays are an ideal day of visit because an equestrian ballet performance is held that will take your breath away; it is a very polished and perfected show that one must see while visiting Jerez. The splendid performance moves to the vibrant Spanish music with its dancers and performers dressed in seventeenth century costumes.

The Museo de Relojes must also be on your itinerary. This place is home to Europe’s best and varied art collection with 300 pieces in total; its pieces are all dated between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Fiestas in Jerez

Two annual events that are actively celebrated make Jerez extra special. The yearly Jerez Horse Fair which takes place in May is a spectacular event which has been going on since the Middle Ages when European traders would come from great distances to participate. There is a tradition in which holding the reigns of a horse constitutes a confirmed sale! Another much celebrated event is the Fiestas de Otoño which is celebrated in conjunction with the festival, Feria de Caballo, making it Jerez’s largest and most festive celebration each year. It begins in late September and runs to October with lots of merry making and festivity.

It is better to take a seat inside as it is comparatively less expensive than outside. You can see an archway to the left from there where you can see a statue of Miguel de Cervantes. Cervantes is the author who wrote the famous book, Don Quixote. To the south of Zocodover, you can see the Alcazar. After taking a left turn you will reach the important cathedral. A short distance further to the left you can go to the Jewish Quarter. The Iglesia de Santo Tomé is at a near distance as well.On the way back, you can visit the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz.

Segovia Tourist Guide

Segovia is very famous for its beautiful castle believed to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the Roman aqueduct.  Segovia is indeed one of the best places for a day trip from Spain’s capital city of Madrid.

The best time to go to Segovia is at the end of October when there is a festival going on.

There are many things you can do in this city, such as:

Visit the aqueduct which was constructed almost 2000 years ago and despite that, is in very good condition.
You can also pay a visit to the fairytale castle of Alcazar.
The Museo de Arte Contempraneo Esteban Vicente is a nice place for art lovers.
You can taste the local dish of Segovia – cochinillo which is a roasted pig.
You can also visit the Jewish neighborhood that begins at the Plaza del Corpus Cristi.
It is quite convenient to go from Madrid to Segovia by bus or train.
You can also go from Salamanca to Segovia on a one day trip.

From Segovia, you can go to Avila which is about 60 minutes away if you travel by bus. You can go to both the places – Segovia and Avila from Madrid in one day, when properly planned. You can even go to El Escorial. If you want to hire a car from Segovia, there is easyCar which offers service all over Spain at reasonable prices. If you are going to Segovia via bus, then make sure that you do not go straight to the cathedral. It is on a hilltop and you can see it from the station itself. The place closest to the station would be the aqueduct which is close to Avenida de Fernández Ladreda.

If you are going via the train you have to go by foot and cross the Paseo Conde Sepúlveda to the bus terminal and then turn to the right. After that you can go to the Tourist Office which is nearby and obtain handy information. You can then go to Cervantes reaching the Plaza del Corpus Cristi where you will find the famous synagogue.Next, visit the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and cross to the museum of witchcraft - the Alzacar. This is one of the most effective routes for your trip to Segovia; there are other routes too but if you choose one of those you must carry a map with you and ignore the street signs leading to Plaza Mayor which are meant for drivers.

Going On Holiday In Puerto Del Carmen

A relaxing Spanish holiday

Many think of their Spanish holiday as their opportunity to just relax and do nothing. Tourists visit Spain and especially the Canary Islands with the impression that they are just going to lie in the sun, on a delicate beach; this is what many think of when they hear about Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote. However, once they get there, they soon find out that there are so many interesting things to do in Puerto del Carmen, sunbathing is not the only thing that will happen during their holiday.

Practicing sports

Puerto del Carmen is a very entertaining resort, where tourists have a lot of fun activities at their disposal. First of all, there are the sports. You can’t just stay glued to the beach, because something will definitely attract you. When you get bored with too much water, you can admire the breathtaking landscapes by going on a trip by bicycle; children love doing this type of activity, but on the back of a horse use the services of a horse riding club and you will spend some wonderful hours. Those who love golf have a very good selection of golf courses at their disposal. But what would be a seaside holiday destination be without water sports? Puerto del Carmen offers its tourists the chance to practice scuba diving and windsurfing, as the waters here are among the most calm in the Canary Islands.

Exciting activities

The water seems to have something that attracts tourists, especially the water surrounding the beautiful island of Lanzarote. When you see it, its tranquility and its clear blue surface, there is nothing to stop you from wanting to get out and have some fun. Those with a spirit for adventure can rent jet skis or go on a sailing trip. Others prefer a banana ride with the group of friends or a sea fishing trip, where they can catch the fish for their next meal.

Nightlife in Puerto del Carmen

When you are on holiday, the first thing that crosses your mind when evening comes is “party”. The nightlife is very rewarding in Puerto del Carmen. Some want to have a good drink; for them, we strongly recommend the bars along the Strip. For those who want a good laugh, there are plenty karaoke bars. If your holiday is perfectly timed, you can take part in one of the traditional Spanish festivals that will delight your eyes and ears. Enjoy your holiday!
